Them that's got shall have
Them that's not shall lose
So the Bible said and it still is news
Mama may have, Papa may have
But God bless the child that's got his own, that's got his own
BUT is that REALLY what the Bible says? That's what we'll be talking about in the next sessions of The Journey - I hope to see you Saturday!
Here's a short (about a minute) video I took going around the Holy Column in the church of Santa Prassede. This is the column that Jesus was tied to when he was scourged by Pontius Pilate. They don't always have the barrier down, so you usually don't get to see it from all the way around. I wanted to get video of the whole thing all the way around because I ran across a note in an ancient document that said that those who made a pilgrimage (at that time to the Holy Land, since it was still in Jerusalem) could visit the Holy Column, and could see marks left from the hands of Jesus where he gripped it as he was being whipped. I assume that this is pious legend, but I figured since the column has that dark & light marble, maybe there's a place where the dark parts look like hands. I did not see it, but if you do, let me know!
I mentioned in The Journey that I wrote a song based on Isaiah 2, which is one of my favorite OT passages:
In days to come, the mountain of the Lord’s house
shall be established as the highest mountain, and raised above the hills.
All nations shall stream toward it. Many peoples shall come and say:
“Come, let us go up to the Lord’s mountain, to the house of the God of Jacob, That he may instruct us in his ways, and we may walk in his paths.” For from Zion shall go forth instruction, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
He shall judge between the nations, and set terms for many peoples.
They shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; One nation shall not raise the sword against another, nor shall they train for war again. House of Jacob, come, let us walk in the light of the Lord!
I hope you like the song!
I will do a live stream of our next session of The Journey on Tuesday, the 14th, in the evening. Look for it at 9 pm ET; 8 pm CT.
Theoretically it will stream on both Rumble and here on Locals. But I don't know how the scheduling works, so it may or may not show up as a pre-scheduled live stream here on Locals like it usually does.
If you can, please try to watch on Rumble so I can see how that works. I also have no idea whether people watching on Locals can ask questions since we may find that the chat feature is not active or doesn't transfer to Rumble studio. I guess we'll find out, and if anyone is willing to log into both to compare, I would LOVE that kind of feedback. - anyway, for those willing to test Rumble, here is the link to my Rumble account (it works like YouTube, but nothing is posted there yet):
Hi all - first of all, we won't have The Journey this Saturday - I'll be in Houston for a speaking gig.
But I do want to continue with our passages on the death of John the Baptizer - and at the same time, I want to do a test of the new Rumble platform. As I understand it, I should be able to do a live stream from Rumble, and have it stream simultaneously here on Locals, so you can watch and participate from either the Rumble or the Locals platform.
Now, I don't really know how this works, and the only way to find out is to test it. (They don't have an instruction manual, after all - remember those?) SO... I am going to do a test of Rumble, and live stream from the Rumble platform and to Locals at the same time, and as always you will also be able to watch the video after the fact, here on Locals, or on Rumble.
So our next session of The Journey will be at a different time. More info coming soon, but look for the live stream to come one week from today, on Tuesday, Jan. 14th, in ...
This is the same as I gave you last week, but I fixed the typos.
We're picking up where we left off...
